  • July 19-20, 2004 -- New Governance and Constitutionalism in Europe and the U.S. The Faculty of Law, Cambridge University, and the Governance Project of UW-Madison's Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy and European Union Center are sponsoring a workshop in Cambridge, UK. The conference is part of a comparative project that looks at the emergence of "new governance" and its implications for constitutionalism and legal theory in Europe and the U.S.

Randolph Dr., Chicago. Sponsored by the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the dean of International Studies. Pre-registration required.
  • Inaugural Event on November 19, 2003 -- "Building Bridges: Views from France and Germany on Current U.S. - Europe Relations," with speakers Dominique Decherf, French Consul General (Chicago), Alexander Petri, German Consul General (Chicago). Moderated by Alfred Defago, Distinguished Visiting Professor of International Studies. Sponsored by the Center for German and European Studies and the Center for Interdisciplinary French Studies.
  • June 13, 2003 -- "Transatlantic Relations: International Security, the Fight against Terrorism, Institutional Multilateralism and the Role of NATO," a panel discussion featuring Knut Vollebæk, Norway's ambassador to the United States, and John Doyle Ong, United States ambassador to Norway. The moderator was Alfred Defago, former Swiss ambassador to the United States and currently a visiting professor at the UW-Madison. The panel was part of the Wisconsin Alumni Association's "Europe 2003" conference in Oslo, co-sponsored by the Division of International Studies
